one day some of you will actually go outside and go to pride and you’re going to meet old black queens who refers to themselves as femme, you’ll meet people from small towns who still use the word transsexual, you’ll see that your local activist organization set up a stall about your local LGBT history that includes leather bar’s history, you’ll see lesbians in groups refer to themselves as “guys” and “boys”, you’ll see someone with breasts and pasties and little else have “he / him” painted on his chest, and you’ll be so caught up with your terminally online attitude that instead of appreciating the wide diversity of people who exist in the LGBT community who are brave enough to share themselves you’ll just be formulating posts and tweets in your head for when get home about how “problematic” it all was and it’s honestly tragic

I also want to make it abundantly clear this is why people say “fuck cops” and why “Blue Lives Matter” is bullshit. It may only be a “handful” of corrupt cops (which is also bullshit) but it’s the entire institution behind them that enables them and refuses to take any form of accountability. Every single cop is complicit. Every single one.

“I’ll create something, you understand?”

I want to apologise to

wheeloffortune-design:

- Britney for making fun of her when she had her breakdown

- Monica Lewinski for judging her when she was a 22year old temp sexually assaulted by the most powerful man in the world

- Ke$ha for ever thinking she was trashy when all she wanted to do was make party music

- Kristen Stewart for ever thinking she was dumb when she’s actually one of the coolest people ever

- Megan Fox for ever thinking she was just a slut when actually she was an actress being harassed by her employer.

- Hating all the women who made a career out of having a hot body. Being is shape is hard, beauty is a weapon and auto promotion is hard work.

- All the Mary-Sues, who exist because young girls everywhere want to be part of a story they love so much

- All the female characters I ever snobbed because they got in the way of my ship.

- Hating the color pink during my teenage years, when it’s actually a lovely color and what I resented was society’s pressure to perform femininity.

some of y’all and the media is so disgusting and overwhelmingly sexist it’s ridiculous. justin bieber spent 2-3 years being a massive dick to everyone for no reason, putting people’s lives in danger by speeding down streets, and sleeping with underaged girls. he goes on stage singing “sorry” and crying and all is forgiven. he still sells a ton, still has huge concerts, no one cares. but ariana grande literally has 22 of her fans blown up in front of her and people only gave a fuck for 3 months? she is groped at a FUNERAL and all people can talk about is how short her dress is. she leaves a toxic relationship with a substance abuser and SHE is blamed for his death. y’all really hate women!

listen i also hate those dumbass political cartoons about kids and their phones but at the same time you’re a fool if you flat out deny there are negative aspects to the way we communicate in the social media age

facebook and instagram strategically time your notifications after you post something to make you waste time scrolling. those two platforms also come to mind as being particularly performative (“look at this beautiful picture-ready thing i’m doing today”) although any social media encourages that. snapchat’s streak feature, as well as those stupid emojis next to people’s names, exist solely to suck you into using the app every day. twitter and instagram display your follower count, and facebook displays how many friends you have. tumblr cultivates a culture of oversharing, and although you can have one-on-one conversations on here, most “communication” takes the form of shouting from a soapbox. all of these things are related to the problem of privacy online, which many of us simply assume doesn’t exist and should therefore be tossed aside so that we can dissect and manufacture every detail of our selves and desires online. you can’t honestly tell me these things are of no concern for the way we understand ourselves and others, and our relationships to the world.

I love this post. Also note that social media (the Internet truly), in a way that TV hasn’t been able to achieve, allows advertisers to be more intimate and targeted than they’ve ever been before. Through platforms like Instagram and Facebook, we basically declare to them the things we desire, interact with most often, the places we go, etc…

All that information is scraped from us and used for all sorts of stuff. To get us to buy things, to get us to watch things, to sway our opinions on so many things.

In honor of 19-year-old Simone Biles being named Woman Of The Year by ESPN.

She won a record four gold medals at the Olympics. She’s untouchable!

Congratulations!

okay but she is just literally flying. She doesn’t obey the laws of physics. She is her own law. Biles Law. Coolest woman ever.

And now she’s won the US National Championships for the FIFTH TIME by a margin of 6.55 points!

not to be like uhhrhjugh technology scary and bad but social media has definitely to some extent messed up the way we perceive people and relationships its sad

you dont know somebody personally because you follow them on twitter. you arent best buds with somebody because youre mutuals with them on tumblr. you are not entitled to every bit of information from their life. its become mainstream to share a lot on social media but you still dont know them and the healthiness of pouring out your feelings for a couple likes on a site full of strangers, especially if youre young, is debatable. approaching interpersonal relationships in real life the same way you do online is especially worrisome and frankly it only sets you up for social disappointment

I just. I don’t like this view of “millennials vs Gen Z”. This is NOT supposed to be a competition of who got fucked over the most and who’s “actually fighting back”.

Millennials are fighting back just by surviving in a job market where the minimum wage doesn’t cover the living cost. Millennials are awesome at “killing” the diamond, golfing and napkins industries. Millennials are using the internet to make sure things that corporations want to keep in the dark are exposed. They’re open LGBTQIA-friendly business, they’re supporting each other with online donations so everyone can survive this shitty economy.

And the Gen Z kids? The Gen Z kids are rad. I remember a post about something like the millennials making a collective promise to never become a disenchanted generation that only criticizes the next one and I want to point out that this “millennials vs gen z” trend is trying to do exactly that: split us apart. Prevent millennials from being the older siblings that teach the younger siblings to throw a good punch and turn them into the annoyed adult complaining about “those kids” on their lawn. We are the two groups that grew in a connected world of information. We are two very unique generations.

I think that it’s our duty for us millennials, as a disrespected, underpaid, very angry generation to stand up by our younger siblings, and fight together the oppressive systems that brought us all to this point.

Yo we CANNOT be that generation that turns on the young because we think we’ve had it worse. We need to make the effort to pave the way for a better future and we need to start NOW. Millennials are a few short years of being able to run for high seats of government. We are starting to filter into upper management and we need to fight to get higher.

The only way to make change is to start it and teach the next generation to continue the fight.
